  • Successful Students Need School Supplies

    Funded Aug 9, 2022

Thank you so much for donating to our classroom with new school supplies! Each student received new crayons, colored pencils, pens in three different colors, pencils, dry erase markers and highlighters on the very first day of class. Also, they received composition notebooks and folders.

The students and their parents were excited that rather than heading for the store to purchase supplies, wonderful people donated to our classroom so that they could be successful right from the start.

Thank you again for your support from all of my students and me!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sharp

  • Graphic Novels & Comfy Seating!

    Funded May 4, 2022

Thank you so much donors for fully funding "Graphic Novels & Comfy Seating" project. When this years library was finally open in September for Silent Reading, the students were absolutely thrilled to be able to sit in some "super cool" seats, relax and read. The added addition of three comfy multi-positional seats are amazing. The seats can be used to sit unright or in a reclining position for student reading enjoyment. Although COVID is still a concern for all students, the flexible seating you see in the pictures are able to be disinfected daily keeping us safe. Students have created a "waiting list" so that they all have an opportunity to use the new seats during their turn in the library. Combined with the other wobble seats and comfy pillows we already had, our Reading Area is PERFECT!

The addition of "new" graphic novel choices is a HUGE success! Graphic Novels are a way for even my lowest ability level readers can enjoy them and in fourth grade their image is becoming more important. I still have many students below grade level and graphic novels even everyone out! Students are allowed to choose any graphic novels in our classroom library from Dog Man & Diary of a Wimpy Kid to new exciting choices that they have never heard of no matter their reading level! I can't keep them on the shelf...that would make ANY teacher ecstatic! 😀

My students are reading and enjoying being able to read in a comfortable area. Ask any of my students what they like best about silent reading and they will tell you the ability to sit away from their desks on their backs or bellies is a welcomed change from their desks.

Thank you Donors Choose, Sonic for matching at 1.5 and all of the donations received. I appreciate you and my students do too!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sharp

  • Counting Money Makes Students Financially Responsible!

    Funded Aug 26, 2022

Thank you so much for your generous contributions to our project! Teaching students how to count money and make change are two very important life skills. In fact today when I went to buy something the cashier gave me back too much money! Of course I gave it back, but some people don’t catch that mistake and get too little or to much change. Bet they wish they would have had an opportunity to learn and play at the same time when they were in school!

Again, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generosity and support of our project goal and classroom.🥰”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sharp

  • Listening, Literacy & Science Skills With Scholastic News

    Funded Aug 10, 2019

Thank you so very much for contributing to our classroom project of Scholastic News, Science Spin Magazine and brand new headphones too!! The awesome thing about this project is that for the entire school year, our classroom will remember you and that someone they have never met supports their education!

There are a few unrealized gifts that this project gives our classroom:

    1. Reading takes you places you have never been...

    2. Readers are future leaders in their communities...

    3. If someone they never met believes that they are worthwhile, then maybe, just maybe they will believe too!

    4. If we are truly lucky, then will pay your generosity forward?!?

Stay tuned for pictures of my students reading and listening to the gift you gave

From the bottom of my heart, thank you, thank you a million times over!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sharp

  • Science, Literature, and Literacy Connected...Oh my!

    Funded Sep 2, 2016

Thank you so much for supporting our classroom with the gift of Scholastic News and Science Spin Magazines for our classroom. I have attached some pictures of our class reading the magazine and a science investigation that went with the magazine on moon phases.

Our classroom parents also enjoyed reading with their children when these magazines came home! My goal with the project was to improve the school to home reading connection. A simple shared magazine improved reading in my classroom and allowed for parent-student conversation about reading!

I believe that reading these magazines not only allowed my students to explore current events, but improve their reading scores on the state test!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sharp

I am starting my sixteenth year of teaching and my fifth year at Tau Beta Elementary, located in the heart of Hamtramck. We have a unique student population consisting of new residents to the United States from many of the war ravaged countries in the Middle East. All of my students have little to nothing of their own and many only the clothing they came here with as they escaped to freedom in the US. Currently, I am teaching fourth grade to a class of 29 bright eyed students. My goal is to push each student in my class to their personal best while using a variety of teaching styles. Integrating multi-subject curriculum that uses art, experiments, and investigations helps students achieve their potential. I believe that each student can reach their potential if given an opportunity!
