Preschool students love hands on learning! If you have ever spent a day with 4 and 5 year olds, you know they are full of questions Why? and How? With the purchase of gardening tools: seed pots, tools, wheelbarrows and wagons, my preschool students will be able to learn about healthy food choices, where their food comes from, and how it grows. They will be able to actively engage in the process by being able to plant their own seeds. They will learn responsibility by caring for these plants daily by watering them, weeding them, and watching their growth. We can carry this over in the classroom by talking about food and creating food and nutrition based crafts. This is where the need for plenty of printer ink comes in! They can participate in imaginative play by "cooking" their food and going "grocery shopping" for their fruits and vegetables. Along with health eating, it is important that we teach our students about being active. Florida is HOT! Having gross motor equipment and games for indoors will allow these students to participate, even on days where the heat or rain doesn't allow us to go outside. Physical activity equipment will allow these students the opportunity develop their gross motor skills and motor planning; building confidence for a healthy and active life in the future. It is so important that we establish healthy lifestyles while children are young so that we set them up for an active, healthy life!
