Seating and Supplies
Funded Jul 19, 2019We are almost done with our first quarter in first grade, and my students have grown so much! The seating and supplies you provided for our classroom has been amazing. We are able to have a full flexible seating set-up in which there is a variety of seating options that students can choose from. Students love being able to have choice in their seating.
With your donation, each student has a color-coded folder with poems and nursery rhymes, which they adore! They also have a folder with individualized "sight words" to guide their learning in reading. Both of these folders are a tremendous support for students in our reading time.

Literacy Learning
Funded Jan 5, 2019Our class was so thrilled to receive a complete set of Mr. Putter books. When the box arrived, every student was given one Mr. Putter book to keep in their personal "book box," and it sounded like Christmas morning. Students squealed, hugged their books, and read the books over and over again. Now the set has returned to the classroom library for everyone to share. Every chance they get to have "free choice reading," many students run straight to the box of books that were donated through this project.
The flashcards donated through this project have helped students greatly with learning sight words. We have plenty for every student to work on an individualized set of words.
If you were to visit our reading block, you would see students all over the room enjoying books. This group of students has a love and joy for reading that I hope follows them throughout their lives. Thank you for making such a great impact in my classroom.”

Go Green!
Funded Dec 22, 2018It has been an amazing couple of months since your donation to our Green Club. When students saw the boxes in my classroom, they could hardly wait another minute before opening the boxes! As you can see in the photos, students were THRILLED to see so many materials for their projects.
We have been growing seeds in the plant stand that you donated to our club, with plenty of planters, soil, and other materials. Students have plants that they are responsible of taking care of, and they are so excited each time they see their little sprout grow.
Next we will continue to grow our plants, and soon we will be planting them outside our school before we leave for summer. Thank you again for the incredible impact you have made on our after school club.”

First Grade Basics
Funded Jun 28, 2018We just finished our first quarter in first grade, and things are going wonderfully! My students are fully equipped with their own supplies to support them throughout the day. Each table of students has their own crate that they are responsible for keeping organized. Students also have their own pencil boxes full of the supplies they need.
One of our favorite things to do as a class is writing stories together on our carpet. They can each bring a pencil, their own crayons, and a clipboard to the carpet to complete their writing. This wouldn't be possible without your donation to my classroom.
Having these supplies has lifted such a weight from my shoulders this school year. I no longer need to worry about planning for students to take turns with crayons, markers, etc. I can plan my lessons with ease, knowing that we are fully stocked with everything we need. My favorite donation was the laminating sheets! I laminate everything, from behavior charts to flashcards, and now I'll be able to save these items for future school years as well. I am so incredibly thankful for the ways you have helped my class this year.”

Kindergarten Seating: Flexible and Fun
Funded Dec 15, 2017We have been using our flexible seating for a few months now and all I can say is WOW! This has created an incredible impact on my students, as they now have the ability to wiggle and move while seated. With the chance to move and wiggle, students' negative behaviors have decreased dramatically, as they are now given the chance to exert the energy that they have built up inside.
I was able to set up the new seating before students returned from winter break. When students arrived and saw the new seating options, they squealed and literally jumped for joy. They were truly amazed at the way they had so many fun options around the classroom!
I have spent the first few months with these seating options giving students assigned seats. As the school year begins to wind down, I am panning to give my students more freedom with their choice in seating. We will be having discussions about knowing your own learning needs and making the right choice at a seat that will help you learn the best. This is such a valuable lesson, and I am excited to be able to implement it with students at such a young age!

Tablets in Kindergarten- Learning to Love to Read!
Funded Aug 14, 2016The use of tablets in my kindergarten literacy centers has been amazing. In addition to the engaging activities, I have also been able to provide students with individualized learning opportunities. My students have become independent at the use of a QR code scanner. This requires my students to find the correct app, then take a picture of a pixilated square. The app then takes the students to a website pre-chosen by me. This multi-step process is very rigorous for five year olds; nevertheless, my students have mastered it!
Through the use of QR codes, I am able to send students to a variety of learning websites. Many times, I will take them to a video of a book read aloud. This gives my students the ability to access familiar books to build their story comprehension. Not only have I seen a boost in their engagement in books and storytelling, but my students are begging me every day to open the QR codes so they can listen to more stories. Your donation has made me able to build that love and excitement for learning that, as a teacher, I love to see. Students also use the technology to play educational math and phonics games. The technology enables me to differentiate students' learning as they are working independently.
My students absolutely LOVE the classroom tablets. Not only are the fun and engaging, I am also able to differentiate my students' learning by giving each student an activity that meets his or her own needs. For my students who are still learning letters, I am able to send them to a handful of letter-learning games. For my students who can listen to a full book independently, I am asking them to "write " about the book they just heard. The tablets have done amazing things for my classroom and I couldn't be more grateful.”
