  • Backyard Games!

    Funded Jul 20, 2021

Thank you so much for all the backyard games we received! Being a school with minimal funding, we experience lack of equipment as well as lack of variety, so I'm always trying to find ways to keep the students engaged and enjoying themselves in the gym! The love giant connect 4 (probably because it's the least physically demanding lol) but I have witnessed them putting a lot of thought and decision making

skills into play as well as engaging in healthy competition! They also really love cornhole and spike ball but it's been getting cold here in NY so they will play more when the weather gets a bit warmer. Thank you so much for all the fun games, you have helped provide more ways for my students to enjoy participating in physical education!”

  • Virtual Reality in the Gym!

    Funded Jul 20, 2021

Thank you so much for the virtual reality headsets! My students absolutely love them! I initially wanted them to incorporate technology in the gym and it's worked great. Students have played all different games learning how to exercise while using technology. Ping pong, bowling and boxing have been the biggest hits. I've also introduced my Advanced Placement exercise science students to the VR world. They've spend the last few days searching around for different educational experiences that relate back to what we're learning in class. These are the greatest gifts we could have received. My students and I are so appreciative and they asked me to send so many thanks to you!”

  • Snack on This!

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

The snacks have helped our students stay satisfied during the day. Since COVID hit, a lot of our students do not have a lunch period so they great breakfast, work straight through the day and then leave a period early so they can get lunch then, but that causes a lot of hunger during the day, especially after my physical education classes!! With some healthy snacks, some not as healthy :), the students have enjoyed having the ability to snack on something through out the day and they are very grateful to all the donors! We appreciate the kind gesture! Thank you from my students and I!”

  • Technology in the Gym

    Funded Oct 30, 2019

Thank you so much for the donations for the iPad, pencil and case. The students are loving incorporating technology into the weight room. They have been using excel spreadsheets to enter their weight training regimens and fitness gram data. they use the ipad to play music while they work out, and they also use it to youtube workout videos! They find anything from ab workouts to zumba and pilates. You donation has helped give my students many more options in class and has really helped my students all find something they enjoy doing for physical activity. I couldn't be more grateful!”

  • Train Like a Champion!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you so much for the free weights and barbell, my students couldn't be happier. Before this, we only had 30 lb free weights, which most students were not able to do much with. Now with a variety of weights, every student has been able to achieve success. The barbell has made many students, especially the boys, interested in crossfit a little more. They have been practicing the clean and jerk, as well as other barbell exercises. They all love to bench press with it as well. We are all super grateful for your generosity! Thank you!”

  • Keep Calm, Play Ping Pong!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

My students absolutely love the ping pong table. Just recently they have had the opportunity to be introduced to both ping pong and tennis, and they can not get enough. They always asking me to bring the ping pong table out of the storage room so they can play. They enjoy having competitions with each other. At first they were too strong for their own good, they had to learn that they shouldn't hit the ping pong ball as hard as they can because it'll go off the table. For a lot of them it's become their favorite thing to do in gym. Thank you so much for giving them the opportunity to learn ping pong!”

  • Serve Em Up, Slam Em Down!

    Funded May 11, 2018

My students have never played tennis before and they're enjoying learning the new sport. Our facilities aren't large enough to play a full court game, but they're learning the skills needed to participate in a game. They have practiced a forehand hit, a backhand hit, a serving against the wall. They have also volleyed back and forth with each other in the space that we have. Hopefully one day we can go over to a local park and be able to play full court games once the skills are mastered! Thanks again!”

  • SHOOT for the Stars!

    Funded Dec 21, 2017

I could not be more appreciative for the extra basketball hoop and additional basketballs for my students! When they saw the materials, all the girls reactions were exactly as I thought they would be! They were excited and shocked that we had another hoop. The girls often use it to shoot around because, you know boys- especially inner city boys that LOVE basketball, they take over the actual basketball court, play super competitively and the girls get a little intimidated, so this extra hoop was a godsend!

Funny to say though, even the boys love the hoop. They all mess around on it and they can ALL dunk on it because I have it a little shorter than regulation size! They are enjoying it much more than I expected.

My next unit is to teach tennis since I got my project funded for those materials as well! Without a tennis court, I'm going to turn the basketball court into a tennis court- and thanks to the additional hoop from you, the students can still shoot hoops/play a mini game while waiting for their turn on the tennis court! Thanks to you and everyone who is so generous on donorschose, I get to give my students the best experience I can during physical education. You are very appreciated!”

  • Life is Simple: Eat, Sleep, Play SOCCER!

    Funded Nov 28, 2017

My students absolutely love the soccer goals! As February is nearing an end and the weather is getting a little bit nicer here in New York City, I have been able to bring the goals outside for my students to use a couple of times. Many of my students grew up in the Middle East and have been playing soccer their whole lives, and when they got to high school here they've felt deprived. We are a very small school with very limited space and not lucky enough to have the luxury of a soccer field here, so when they saw the goals that I put outside on our little courtyard they were ecstatic (not to mention the soccer balls that they all want to take from me on Friday afternoons so they can use them at the park on the weekends)! They themselves set up teams and tournament game play and are having a blast! They ask me to take the goals outside everyday and they thank me over and over again every time we use them. So thank you more than words can say, because you have helped grow my relationships with so many of my students and I am beyond grateful for that!”

Due to lack of space and funding, our students are not experiencing physical education the way that they should! In their home countries, they have never played ping pong, gone to a bowling alley, or even heard of shuffleboard. My students deserve the opportunity to participate in everything this world has to offer. It is my job to introduce them to activities they may have never known even existed. Please help me help them learn a variety of physical activities so they have the opportunity to enjoy physical education each and every day they step foot into my gym! My goal is to have every one of my students uncover a sport/activity that they enjoy so much that they will continue to participate in outside of the school building!
