Supplies Create Superstars
Funded Aug 14, 2024Thank you for the supplies. It has a great impact on the organization of supplies and the writing center. Unfortunately the headphones were no longer available but the snacks chosen were enjoyed by all.
The students like writing on their boards and in journals with their colored pencils. Boards and colored pencils bring out their creativity and imagination. Writing boards allow a child to make a mistake and it be okay to correct it quickly and easily. Thanks to the Gates Foundation for the early success my students are having in writing and letter recognition. These two skills are important to a kindergartner's success in reading.
Thanks again for helping K-3 have a great start to the year”

Funded Aug 1, 2024The supplies have given my students a sense of empowerment as they each can have their own set of supplies. Sharing in the beginning of the year is a difficult task for kindergartners to do. Your donation has helped them learn responsibility and creativity thanks to these supplies.
I was able to establish routines easier because everyone had an identical set of supplies. They all were delighted to get new supplies. For the most part my students are taking very good care of their new supplies.
Thanks for your thoughtfulness as I do appreciate the kindness you showed me and my kindergarten class”

Opening Creative Minds
Funded Jul 27, 2023The journals are giving my students an opportunity to be creative in their drawing while still understanding where to write their story. We are in the early stages but a few students have begun to take full advantage of the the set up of each page.
I want to thank you for your kindness in helping move my writing program on with diligence. It is great I do not have to specify on every page picture here story here. I feel great success this year.
I able to focus on the writing not on how to use the journal. My students love having their own special journal. It gives them a sense of pride.”

Funded Oct 2, 2022Fluency and Fitness has been a great experience for me and my students. Learning, practice and active movement are essential components to success. The students ask everyday can we do F&F and I say sure. Asking to practice skills in literacy and math is what every teacher wants to hear. During center time the students enjoying working together to work on task cards. I am seeing the impact on their ability to read, solve problems in math and to work cooperatively. I watch my students using their decoding skills in the program and during small group intervention.
Thank-you helping my vision become reality in my classroom this year.”

Comfy Comfy Comfy
Funded Aug 13, 2019My class size is a lot larger this year and these extra comfy spots allowed every child to have a comfortable spot to read. The students are relaxed and able to read for a good amount time because they are comfortable. As an adult I know the comfort I feel when reading a book allows me to continue reading and it is doing the same for my students. Comfort is one of the keys to a well behaved, organized classroom. I hope more educators and administrators realize the importance of a warm comfortable spot to read in a classroom.
Thanks to all my donors who recognized this important part learning to read.
Thanks again”

Funded Aug 26, 2018Thank-you again for your support. Some of the magnetic tiles are in my Science Center and others as Part of our Stem time which occurs every afternoon. The students have been creating amazing things with the tiles including castles for princesses, cubes, cages for animals, apartment buildings, and pizzas. Each day they create new things for me to come over and admire. They are so excited with their creations. They explain in detail how they created them and what is happening as they play.
The students were exited to receive more tiles than I already had in my classroom. The students creations and designs are more innovative and detailed. They are able to work together and create new ideas on how to build with them. Cooperation is very hard to teach in kindergarten as everything is me me me so it makes me smile to see children working on projects together to figure out how they can make things work and how they can tell their story about it. One child likes to put princesses in her castle and another child likes serving me pizza.
I hope to use these creations in several writing lessons. The item built will be the center of their creative stories. Also during our magnet lessons I plan to use them. Finally during our unit on 3-d shapes we will create them using the magnetic tiles. So the tiles will be used across the curriculum.”

Funded Aug 20, 2017I want to thank-you for the bright, colorful new rug. My students and I love the rug. It is an integral part of our routine and learning. Everything important happens on my rug including read alouds, message, mini-lessons,and math manipulative practice . For the past several years, it has been very hard to invite anyone especially young children experiencing school for the first time to a dirty, filthy rug. I did not want to sit on the rug let alone invite children to join me for a lesson on it. I just started independent reading and all my students want to read on the new rug. They are upset if I do not choose them for a rug reading spot. It makes me smile ear to ear to see the impact it is having on the overall climate of the room.
During the first week of school I explained we were the luckiest kindergarten class because special folks wanted us to have a bright new rug to start the year. They were so excited and ran to sit on it. It has become the focal point of our classroom and everyone that comes by says how bright it makes the room. Also watching children play on it makes me feel good because often their faces are close to the rug and in the past I felt playing too close could make them sick. My students are more focused and care about the classroom environment. The new rug has a lot to do with this feeling.
My students have begun the steps to becoming independent readers and the rug is playing a significant role in this. I give them comfy cozy spots and the rug now can accommodate 4-6 children during this task. I had been afraid to let children get comfy cozy on the old rug but no the new one. Thanks again to all the donors who made this happen. Teaching is hard enough without having to use fifty materials to do it.
