The Inclusion program at my school features a lunch club with social learning time. This project includes a library of books that will be the foundation of our regular social skills lessons. When kids come to our classroom, they will be able to find books that match their experience of the world. In addition, all students will have the opportunity to come to our class and become more aware and empathetic of a wider variety of learning differences. Some of the themes in the storybooks include anxiety, blurting, understanding figurative language, social awkwardness, self-acceptance, how to remain calm and conflict resolution. The stories use humor to get the point across. Lunch club groups will engage in productive conversation after these great reads!
