My students need a Safco Scoot book cart that is easily accessible, (close to their height) sturdy, and safe for housing AR books that are selected for testing. Each year I encourage my class to expand their knowledge by reading books that "speak to them." As I increase my book library with a wide variety of genres, it is hard to house the books so that my first grade students can pull a book, look it over and then select one for AR reading or reading for pleasure. Regular book cases, make it hard for "little ones" to see some of the titles that are out of their physical reach. They have to stand back, look for a book and then try to reach for it. For safety purposes, students cannot stand on stools to see the books. Many times my smaller students are assisted by me, my assistant or taller students. A rolling book cart, with wheel locks, would be able to house a greater variety of books, at a lower level, be sturdier, and safer for students to make book choices, and to return them when they are finished. Reading opens so many doors for students to expand their minds. Books can take students around the world, teach them about animals, introduce them to other cultures, transport them back in time, thrust them into the future, or just make them feel happy. To increase knowledge and global awareness, books need to be readily available to all students.
