  • Creating a Calming Corner for Our High School Students

    Funded Sep 19, 2024

    We are using the new resources to create a comfortable, student-centered environment that encourages relaxation and focus. The bean bags have become a favorite spot for independent reading time, providing a cozy alternative to desks. Students enjoy rotating to the board games during brain breaks or as part of collaborative learning activities, which help them practice critical thinking and social skills.

    One specific project we worked on was a "creative writing and reflection" activity where students could choose to sit in the relaxation corner, use the fidget toys to help them focus, and then write personal narratives. The calming atmosphere really enhanced their creativity and productivity.

    When the students first saw the materials, they were excited and immediately gravitated toward the bean bags and fidget toys. Many commented on how the space made the classroom feel more inviting and less formal, which has helped them relax and feel more engaged during lessons. The charging stations have also been incredibly helpful, especially during longer research projects or when we use digital learning tools.”

  • Graphic Novels,Mangas and Children's Books are IN

    My students have been beyond grateful to have the option to read mangas and graphic novels in the classroom. These new books have been so popular, that many of the books are being shared between classes!

    While we only spend the first 15 minutes of class participating in Independent Reading, I have noticed a change in how my students view reading. More and more students are becoming independent readers who seek reading for pleasure on their own. It makes me so happy having students ask me every week if they can check out a book so they can continue reading at home.

    With your help, I was able to provide my student with books that not only sparked their interest but helped them build a positive relationship with reading.”

  • Can't Have Books Without Bookshelves!

    With these shelves I was able to display a wide range of books for my students ! Having books displayed has caused students to become more curious about the books I have collected for our class. Seeing the covers of books , that are being changed monthly, has been a gateway to student finding love in reading. Students are enjoying skimming through our class library looking for new stories to dive into more than ever and j hope to continue to expand my class library.

  • Building a Classroom Library That Encourages Positive Reading Experiences

    With your help I have the building blocks to implement a reading project that encourages students to read for fun ! As you may or may not know, reading for fun is not common amongst students, especially by the time they reached high school. Students often view reading as a chore or as something they HAVE to do for a grade. With everything becoming digital, it is also likely that students are not being offered or encouraged to read. However, with your help I was able to begin to fill a bookshelf that will allow students to explore a variety of genres. Sometimes all you need to do to get a student to read is provide them as many types of books as you can and hope they pick one out. As long as students are reading, they are learning and sharpening their reading comprehension and even their language skills !

    Although the school year has yet to start, I can 100% say that my students will be thankful for the books I was able to purchase thanks to your donations. Again, thank you sooo much for your help !”
