"One, two, three.. show me" is my favorite way to hold students accountable for their learning. I teach 5th grade math. As they work through a problem, it's required for them to show their work on a white board. Once the time is up, I give the cue and all students lift their white board. It gives me the opportunity to quickly assess their work, see if students got their answer wrong and where they made their mistake. (It also lets me see if anyone was not doing their work.) We also like to use them in our small group rotations for competitions. First student in the group to raise their board gets a point but if their answer is correct they get TWO points! In a recent meeting with other colleagues, we discussed the challenge of students who may live with other students and might not have their own personal learning space. To try and help the students focus on one thing (instead of other teacher's from younger/older siblings) I am requesting headphones with microphones for students to have their own learning time without distractions. Returning to normalcy is everyone's hope- even though it's far away, having headphones and whiteboards will help make our student's virtual learning experience something they are already accustomed to.
