Full STEM Ahead!
Funded Sep 29, 2022My Pre-K students, my assistant teacher and I would like to thank you for your generosity. The students were extremely excited to use the manipulatives because we told them it was a gift for being such wonderful students. The children were thrilled to use the ramps during our transportation theme. They explored which surface allowed the cars to roll down faster. This experience was not only fun for them but it allowed them to use their critical thinking skills as they investigated. Truly young scientists in the making.
During center time, the students also had the opportunity to review letter and number skills they've learned and at the same time improve their fine motor skills in the process. In the math and writing centers, the children enjoyed counting with the number and letter bots as they twist and turn each number and letter into a robot of their choice. They also enjoyed playing with the number locks. Where they had to identify and match the number on the lock and key. They were extremely excited to be able to successfully match the lock and key and unlock the lock.
The students will continue to explore and play with these manipulatives to further their thinking skills as they grow throughout the year. Thank you again for everything.”

Funded Aug 13, 2020I would like to thank you for donating the Summer Bridge Activities workbooks to my students. I have been using the workbooks to supplement the students learning. During in-person learning, we used the workbooks during small groups to provide each group the necessary support they needed to meet academic standards. When our school was closed due to COVID, we were able to continued working with the workbooks remotely.
Your contribution was able to help me to close the learning gap among my students. The workbooks allowed me to facilitate my diverse group of students through differentiated instruction. I am able to use them for intervention, and or enrichment.
On behalf of my young learners, we would like to thank you again. Without your generosity we would not be able to move along as we are.”

Funded Sep 28, 2016My kindergarten students and I would like to thank you for your generous donations this year. When I showed the class the donations that were donated to us, they all clapped and yelled out thank you. They were very eager to use the materials especially for the seat sacks and the finger space helper. They would remind each other to take care of the materials because they were a gift and I do not have enough money to buy them. They also informed other teachers on the grade band that they received gifts from Donors Choose. The students who did not receive a seat sack were disappointed at first. But I explained to them the reason they have seat sacks is because they do not have a desk to put their books in. They asked me to ask for some more seat sacks for them next time.
Because of your donations, I was able to expose my young learners to more non fiction texts during our ELA block. Every month, the students looked forward to the topic we were going to cover from the Scholastic News. The President is our Leader, was by far their favorite article to read and learn about because they were able to make more self to text and text to world connections. Many students had many questions for President Trump as well as former President Obama. I was amazed with the discussions, and the connections the students were able to engaged in. They were passionate in their discussions. At first, it was a bit difficult for them to understand it's okay to have different thoughts and ideas. But as time went on, the students were able to respect each others opinions. For example, one morning after reviewing the article, I asked the students to discuss with their elbow partner, what makes a leader great? Many students answered, someone who listens, someone who is kind, someone who help others. One student said, "I guess Donald Trump is not a great leader because he doesn't like women or Mexicans."
The seat sacks were also another great help in keeping students books organized. The children who sat at the table with the seat sacks were able to keep their belongings in one place and made transitioning much smoother. The kids at the table did not have to wait on me to hand them their books or other materials. The finger space helper also helped reinforced adding finger space after each word when writing. During our writing block each child would have their finger near them to help them in their writing process.
Again, my students and I are eternally grateful for your contributions this year. You are our heroes!”

Mrs. Edwards
