Coding is a 2st-century life skill. Some of my older students have been learning programming using color codes and fragile, tiny robots. Wonder Workshop's Dot and Dash will give my students larger robots that the whole class can see and use at once. Unlike the bots we have been using, Dot and Dash can be programmed to avoid obstacles and accomplish tasks. By providing our low-income students with sturdy Dot and Dash robots you will inspire students in multiple grades to learn modern coding skills. Students also learn to work together to debug programs, applying critical thinking skills. Working with robots sparks interest and leadership in students with different learning styles and abilities, including students on the autism spectrum. Dot and Dash will help me reach more of those students. I will use Dot and Dash and their accessories during my math and science enrichment lessons with 30 pupils in five different grade levels. Students will learn basic coding skills, and will use school-provided iPads and Chromebooks to test their programs in small groups. Dot and Dash will also allow our Robotics Club to participate in the Wonder League competitions, giving students a chance to succeed outside of the classroom. Our students love to enter academic competitions, and enjoy working together for team success.
