My name is Mrs. Lee; I have been in education for over 20 years. Each year I choose a year-long theme that incorporates a high-interest area and integrates the key elements of character development and service learning. By teaching the content through this theme all year long, students become immersed, engaged, and vested. In 2018, our theme was Learning thru Lemurs: Encouraging Environmental and Ecological Awareness. Students learned the importance of the almost extinct lemur, as well as the vital environmental issues they face. Learners also adopted many lemurs from Lemur Love and Duke Lemur Center by running various fundraisers. In 2017, our theme was Dog Nation: Cultivating Character thru Canines. We sponsored a service dog in training, sent Bark Boxes to military dogs, and raised money for the SPCA. Please help us this year with The Great Outdoors: Encouraging Environmental Action through Education.
