  • Boogie on Down to First!!

    Funded Jan 29, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous support of my project, "Boogie on Down to First." The students were thrilled when the boogie boards arrived and couldn't wait to explore them. We began using them right away!

The students absolutely love using the boogie boards. They've been a fantastic tool for practicing sight words, spelling, and letter formation. The boards are also a hit during our quiet time, giving students extra practice with proper pencil use. We had to set aside specific days for boogie board activities during choice time because everyone was so eager to use them.

We are excited to continue enjoying this wonderful gift throughout the year. Your generosity means so much to us. Thank you again for your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Meiklejohn- Butler

  • All Hands In for Hands-On Learning

    Funded Sep 1, 2016

Thank you so much for your support!

Games have proven to be an invaluable addition to our classroom, making learning both enjoyable and effective. They capture students' interest and enthusiasm, which boosts their motivation and focus. Through games, students naturally develop crucial social skills like cooperation and communication as they work together and take turns. These activities also encourage problem-solving and critical thinking by presenting fun challenges that require creative solutions. Language development is enhanced through games that involve storytelling or word play, helping students expand their vocabulary and improve their communication skills. Physical games help improve motor skills, coordination, and dexterity. Additionally, games provide opportunities for students to learn how to manage their emotions, handle both success and setbacks gracefully, and build resilience. Overall, games create a vibrant and interactive learning environment that supports both academic progress and personal growth.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Meiklejohn- Butler

Educational games also support language development, helping students build vocabulary and improve their ability to express themselves. Physical games contribute to the development of fine and gross motor skills, enhancing coordination and dexterity. Furthermore, games teach students how to manage emotions, cope with winning and losing, and build resilience. This project requests need a variety of games including 10 Number Shut the Box, Qwirkle, Bounce-Off, Gears!Gears!Gears!, Blokus, Suspend, and Brain Flakes. These games strengthen social skills which in first grade is something that we focus on all year long. These skills are what kids need to succeed in life. Social skills are used daily by kids on the playground, in the lunchroom, or on the bus. By giving them time to practice in the class, they can hone their skills to become more successful when faced with real life social situations. These games also build critical thinking skills and executive function. In order to be successful critical thinkers students need many chances to take risks, be flexible, wait, or anticipate what someone else will do. These games allow them to strategize, plan, organized and practice impulse control. Play is so important to children. Play is a child's work. My class needs a playful community to grow as learners and as people.
