My district’s mission is for students to graduate college and career ready. The availability and daily use of Chromebooks will prepare my 21st Century students to enter a technological world as literate and life-long learners. On-hand technology will also allow me to differentiate instruction by providing a multimedia environment for striving readers and writers. Exposure to a technologically-enhanced learning environment will prepare my students to combat the societal and personal barriers they face within a poverty-stricken community and progress towards an element of success. By utilizing technology in my 9th Grade Literature/Composition Course, students will learn what a reliable and trustworthy source is and where to find them; learn to use social media and digital sources responsibly for leisure and as a serious platform; learn to communicate globally; and learn to create a variety of media products to utilize across the curriculum. For example, my students will use Twitter to partake in a professional, academic, and virtual community by holding collaborative, academic discussions with classmates and other professionals for specific instructional tasks. They will also use the Chromebooks to complete writing assignments and performance tasks that require the use of scholarly sources and other technological tools. Through the completion of such tasks, students will progress towards computer proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office and other computer skills. Such skills are instrumental for the success of millennials in college and a career.
