My students need a large, comfortable carpet where we can gather together throughout the school day. Every time we gather on the carpet, whether it is to listen to a classroom read aloud, buddy read, have a whole class discussion or hold our daily Morning Meeting (a vital part of our daily routine), we work on building a positive, supportive classroom community where students truly respect and care for each other. Each morning we begin our day on the carpet with Morning Meeting, where we greet one another, share stories about our lives, and play a cooperative game together. This simple, but incredibly important part of our day, sets the tone for the day and reinforces the message that we are one "family" learning and working together. By donating to this project, you will ensure that our class will have that important gathering space where all children will feel welcome. When students feel that they are a valued and respected member of a classroom they are willing to work harder and take risks with their learning. This space is critical for establishing and maintaining a respectful and cooperative learning environment where each student is able to reach their potential.
