The world around our children is ever changing. Every day they are given new resources that are used to help them communicate with one another as well as allow them to use their imaginations and grow even further in their education. While it is important to have a traditional aspect to my lessons in my classroom, it is crucial I also prepare my students for the real world around them. Cubetto, as well as Osmo, will allow us to dive into the world of technology. Did you ever think you may have a computer scientist, a doctor or even a future computer programmer in your classroom? It is so important to remember we are giving our children the foundation to become who they will be for the rest of their lives. Cubetto the robot will allow my students to be so much more engaged in our reading and math lessons while they explore the use of coding. Whether we are learning directional terms, reviewing math concepts or reviewing letting sounds or a story we read this week, Cubetto is going to have my students learn the basics of coding to move him around, while also practicing their academic skills. Although this is a piece of technology, it allows my students to be hands-on, instead of working on an iPad. My students are so often on the iPads completing their digital content. I am so excited to introduce Osmo because it gives students the chance to use technology through the iPad, but it also gives them physical manipulatives to help them grow in their reading, math and technological skills. When my students come to first grade, I want to give them the materials they need to be versatile and successful in every aspect. Having these two resources will do exactly that!
