Creating and Culture of Learning
Funded Aug 25, 2022I want to give you a heartfelt thanks for this amazing project. My students were so excited when the boxes started arriving. We opened them together as if it was Christmas Day. They loved seeing the learning games, especially the crayon short vowel word game! They beg me to get that one out frequently. The Splash games are such a hit. They are so competitive, but I know they are reading words and having fun.
I love hearing them get excited to read! The privacy folders are a game changer! I use them when students are taking a quiz. This is a great visual for students to know that it is a quiet time and that they are to stay focused on their own work. They love being chosen to pass them out. We use the leveled readers that we got in small groups daily and the students love being able to have the same story as their group members without having to share. I have seen the love of reading come to life in my classroom. This is all thanks to you!”

Funded Mar 13, 2022Thank you again for your generous donations to my project, social emotional connections through creativity. The resources such as the sensory windows and the bubble sensory viewers were used when students were upset or angry. By taking a few moments to calm themselves while watching a ball land on a ledge or bubbles floating calmly down, they were able to think rationally and express their needs and feelings. I used the creative building blocks such as the Legos and the building bricks, along with the ramps and balls for a weekly creative "fun Friday" time. The students were able to use their creativity to build Lego structures and create ramps using various classroom furniture to explore with the ramps and balls. Their favorite was the foam slime with which they could create anything they wanted.
My students' reactions were priceless when they saw all the boxes coming into the classroom. I waited until everything arrived and showed them everything while I unboxed it all. They couldn't wait to get their hands on everything and kept asking me when they could play with it all. We went over handling rules and I gave them some time to "preview" the goods. Needless to say, they enjoyed that time.
The next steps for me and my students will be to build a calming corner with some of the sensory tools for those that need a few minutes in a safe space to calm down and collect their thoughts to be ready to learn again. I would also like to incorporate the social emotional books into my weekly SEL lessons and use them as teaching points to help my students grow. I also will continue the creative fun time each week to give my students a creative outlet to just be kids. Thank you again, for this wonderful, generous donation.”
