My students learn better in small groups with engaging materials. I have 4 different Reading and Math groups and each consist of 4 or 5 students. I can only work with one group at a time and while I am working with a small group, the rest of the students are expected to stay on task in their station activities. During Small Group Reading and Small Group Math Learning Stations they are expected to work independently until they rotate to me. It has been a bit difficult for me planning and making materials that are engaging enough for my students, especially for my students that are struggling with letter and letter sound recognition and also with number identification and counting. My students prefer engaging educational games and activities over iPads. I can really see how much my students will enjoy learning and practicing independently the letter names and sounds (RF.K.1d and RF.K. 3a)with multimedia materials such as the "Educational Insights Hot Dots Jr" and the "Just Smarty Interactive Abc's and 123's Learning Poster". (K.CC.A.3 and K.CC.B.4) The activities in their small group can be organized and differentiated by keeping them in separate containers using storage containers, blue for Reading and red for Math. I also think effective planning from my part and having a "15-Drawer Rolling Storage Cart" to organize each of my small group materials will benefit my students during small group, especially with the short time I have to work with each group.
