Think back when you were in the primary grades and would gather around the teacher to listen to him/her read a favorite story. You always wanted to be seated up front right next to the teacher, so you could clearly see all the pictures. I want my students to all have that opportunity to see the characters and rich text of classic literature. Plus, I want to encourage my emergent readers opportunities to read along with familiar text.
Having a document camera to project the page on the big screen will immediately provide access to all my students. It will allow them to see the illustrations and make those important connections between the text and themselves. Students will immediately see the book on the screen and can read along. They will see how texts are written and how reading builds writing and writing builds reading!
