  • Perfectly Published Pieces

    Funded Dec 16, 2013

I would like to take this opportunity to send my gratitude to each and every one of you for helping my students and I with this project. As one of my students stated, " the possibilities are endless now that we have our own printer in our classroom. We have been busy publishing our projects in our very own classroom since we received the printer. This has allowed us to spend more time working and learning and less time scurrying around the school building to retrieve our work from other rooms. Another student added, "that our sense of despondency has lifted now that we have our own printer!"

Being fortunate enough to have laptops and iPads in our classroom we are busy integrating technology into our everyday learning. By adding a printer to our technology repertoire we can now showcase our work in our classroom. It is important for the students to see their finished pieces displayed, it spreads the message of hard work pays off. My students are currently working together to publish a newsletter educating other children about the endangered species of the rain forest. We will be able to print enough copies to share with other classes and spread the word!

Again it is with great joy that I thank all of you from the bottom of my heart. Because of your generosity my fifth graders are able to further their learning experiences by publishing their work within the comfort of our own classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Russo

  • The More That You Read, The More You Will Know...!

    Funded Jul 8, 2013

I would like to take the opportunity to thank each of you again for donating to our project. Words can not fully express just how thankful I am. We received two very large boxes filled with books just about two weeks ago and you would have thought they were boxes of toys! The children were so excited. As we unpacked the boxes their faces were beaming with curiosity. We leveled the books and placed them in our library. As one student said our bins used to be empty and now they are overflowing! Students eagerly have been shopping for new books in our classroom library as well as recommending them to other classmates.

We have been using the books during our independent reading time in class as well as during our nightly reading homework. Giving students the opportunity to read various genres is essential in helping to raise their reading levels. With this project we have been able to read exciting books about everything from sea otters to Percy Jackson's Lightning Thief! We have expanded our library to cover many topics and interests.

This project has boosted my students learning by giving them greater opportunities. I am fortunate to have a group of students who truly love to read however, before this project was funded we didn't have enough books to satisfy that love. Ever since our books arrived my students have had a book in their hands during any and every free minute we have throughout the day.

Again it is with great joy that I thank all of you from the bottom of my heart. Because of your generosity my fifth graders are able to further their love for reading and expand their horizons by escaping with a good book!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Russo
