  • A Rainbow for Kindergarten

    Funded Dec 10, 2010

Thank you so much for donating colored paper to our class! The children were so excited to receive the boxes full of joy!

We have been able to choose any color we want when publishing our writing. We have created paper pizzas for our "How-To" writing unit, mobiles for our penguin unit, and Santa stars when learning about holidays. Together we create a colorful number display to hang across our classroom as we learn the numbers 1-20.

We share with our friends in other classes, and they are grateful as well. We will continue to enjoy the paper for remainder of the school year. Thanks to you, we will always have an abundance of color choices! ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gruber

  • Elephant and Piggie! We Love Mo Willams!

    Funded Sep 3, 2010

I cannot begin to tell you how thankful I am for your support of our project. The students love every Mo Willems book we have received! The excitement has built from the day the package arrived and we opened it together.

Wen "read the pictures" of Knuffle Bunny to re-tell the story through a "picture walk," and bring copies home to share with our families before returning them to choose another. Thanks to your support, our Spanish-speaking families can enjoy the story in their native language as well.

Our students love to hear us give voice to Piggie, and Gerald, and Pigeon, some of the recurring characters who are so amazingly funny. The children re-enact the stories, wearing pig and elephant hats, begging to have a turn.

Thanks to you, our small collection has grown into a full repertoire, bringing daily and weekly joy to our class. The laughter and smiles are all the evidence we need to prove they are loving reading - a major goal for kindergarten learners. Thank you, thank you, thank you! ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gruber

We are an integrated Kindergarten class in a NY public school. Our students love reading, and we do it in so many ways each day. We do read-alouds, reading workshop with independent and partner reading. Children rush to finish their work and snacks to have the opportunity for more reading at the rug with their friends. We act out the stories and re-tell them again and again. The books are brought home (and then returned) to share with families too!
