  • Helping Books Come to Life!

    Funded Oct 21, 2021

I want to take this opportunity to thank you for the awesome listening center. I have about 60% of my students who cannot read on first grade level. The pandemic has taken a toll and we have some catching up to do. It is impossible to work on comprehension skills if their reading ability is low. Therefore, I'm able to read a book aloud to them, then have them listen to it during rotation time. By hearing the story read fluidly several times, their oral comprehension has improved drastically.

Again, thank you for your support and for helping my students become better readers.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Summers

  • Our Books Come Alive!

    Funded Sep 23, 2021

Children need books in their hands. In today's age of technology, tablets and iphones tend to take the place of books in our homes. Children need the experiences of turning pages and manipulating books. By setting up a listening center in our classroom, all of my students now how that chance. I also teach an afterschool program in my class. Some of my students in that program are up to two levels behind in reading. Because I can't meet with each students independently, they can now hear colorful literature read by an expressive storyteller. This is something they tend to lack in their homes.

Thank you again for your extreme generosity. My students and I are most grateful!”

  • Champions Are Made in the Off-Season!

    Funded Aug 3, 2020

We are so grateful for the donation to our track team. Your generous donation helped us to purchase several different pieces of fitness equipment that will be utilized thus upxinibg track season.

We normally begin our conditioning period about 2 months prior to season beginning. This year has been different. We are just now beginning, and with several interruptions due to Covid outbreaks as well as weather related cancellations as well. When in session, the following equipment will be our go to as we set up circuits in attempts to remain socially distances during workouts.

Hand weights, medicine balls, and bands will be used to provide much needed strength and flexibility necessary to prevent injuries when running season begins in a month. We wish to thank you again from the bottom of our hearts for taking an interest in the athletes of Taylor County.”

  • Sensational Stations

    Funded Jan 23, 2020

My students always get so excited to receive new materials whether it be books, math manipulatives or in this case, items to make studying phonics and reading rules more fluent and fun.

These dot pens and reading station materials have added a lot of independence to our reading time. With use of these, the students, without the guidance of the teacher (because she is meeting with another small group) can independently read the problem, select an answer and then receive an immediately response whether correct or incorrect.

Thank you so much for you generous donation. It is being well-used.”

  • Reading Seating

    Funded Aug 21, 2019

I wish to thank you so much for your kind donation to our first grade classroom. When I became a teacher, I knew exactly what I needed to accomplish. As a child, I never enjoyed reading. I saw reading as a chore that teachers made you do as busy work. It was never any material that I enjoyed. I was never asked what I would LIKE to read. Therefore, I didn't ever read when given that option. I decided as a teacher myself now, I would change that for my students.

When the boxes arrived, they were huge. Of course my students were curious. When I opened them and explained that these were to be used to be sure we are comfy when we read, their eyes lit up and now in my classroom, instead of going straight for the tablets to play games, many of my students now choose to pick a book of their liking and stretch out and read. It does my heart good to see this.

Thank you so much for helping make my classroom a more inviting place.”

  • Cool and Quenched Wins the Race!

    Funded Feb 21, 2019

We received the pop up canopies and water thermos very quickly. Our first meet was this past weekend. It was perfect timing. It was 30 degrees and windy. There were approximately 800 student athletes at this large Invitational. Our bright gold tents were easy to locate, houses our 22 girls perfectly. The second day of the meet, the sun was shining brightly. So not only did the shelter protect us from the wind but also the bright sun. (Many got sunburned anyway) The canopies were easy to transport and assemble by myself and my assistant coach. Once again, a big thank you for your generous donation.”

  • On Your Mark, Get Set, STRETCH!!!

    Funded May 10, 2018

We begin per-season conditioning a month prior to season starting. Because several of our track athletes don't participate in other sports, the intense workouts can wear on their muscles. With your help, we now have muscles rollers and mats available to the girl to massage their muscles prior to and at the completion of each strenuous workout. This helps to alleviate injury as well as help prevent cramping. We will continue to utilize this equipment during season as well as these rollers will accompany us to all track meets.

Thank you again for your generous donation. It is much appreciated!”

  • Crossing the Finish Line in Style!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

I can't thank you enough for your generosity. Each athlete on my track team received their own Nike backpack to use throughout track season to transport their uniforms and equipment in. When I brought the box of backpacks into the locker room, I can't begin to tell you how elated these girls were. I also received many texts and calls from parents thanking me for being able to supply each girl with an item that they were not financially able to provide.

As you can see in the photos, I have a very sweet group of very hard working girls. They have run practices in the rain, blizzards and hot scorching sun never complaining. We are so appreciative!!”

  • Readers are Leaders!

    Funded Nov 9, 2017

I want to thank you so much for your continued support in my classroom. Since we ha e received the new books and CD players, my students now have the opportunity to listen to fluent stories daily during our small group time. After hearing a story read on cd, my students are now taking the initiative to reread the story books to better their comprehension. For my students, reading is now becoming much more of a privilege than a chore. In the past my students have dreading quiet reading time. They would choose any station besides this one. Now, with new fresh titles and quality CD players that work, they enjoy that quiet time. I will continues to search for quality literature to add to our listening station by using scholastic points and faculty senate.

    Thanks you again!”

    Ms. Summers

  • "Starting" a Tradition of Champions!

    Funded Mar 29, 2017

I just want to sincerely thank you for allowing us to purchase an additional 3 starting blocks. The ones we had were old, somewhat rusted and not adequate for the 4 home track meets that we sponsor each year. The girls were so excited and proud when our new blocks arrived. They were able to have much more productive practices as well as improve their start times tremendously. As a result of this purchase, I feel our 8 athletes that were able to participate in the State Track Meet were given the once in a lifetime experience of running and competing with the state's top athletes. Our next step is to raise money to purchase a new high jump mat, as ours is completely dry-rotted and falls apart when they land on it. Also, as the coach, it is my goal to help them purchase new uniforms this year as we continue to build the Girl's Track Program at Grafton High School.”

Students need to come to school feeling that they are needed and make a difference. By designating a gathering point within the classroom, we will be fostering a sense of classroom community. I believe that students, especially at the fourth grade level, need to feel as though their opinion matters. I have many activities planned to use to boost students self-esteem and self worth. I hope to gather daily on the rug and start our day on a very positive note, since so many of our students come to school not mentally ready to learn. Many topics will be addressed on this rug. Math concepts of time, science related weather issues as well as classroom maintenance procedures. Giving students the time and ability to be heard and voice their concerns and also to participate in class discussions will create an inviting was to start our school day.
