Items that are requested will be used for special education students with sensory, behavioral, and academic needs. We cannot always purchase items that cater to student interests or sensory needs. Students are interested in fidgets for sensory needs and games for social skills practice. Students often use fidgets to help them when they are feeling restless, upset, or anxious. The items will promote engagement in academic work, help students develop and strengthen social skills, and promote self-regulation. We work with students who have disabilities, sensory needs, trauma histories, and mental health needs. Many of our students need lots of positive reinforcement to attend and stay in class, stay positive with peers, and complete work. We find that when students have an opportunity to earn something tangible, they work hard to meet expectations.
