"Culture shock!" What an understatement when it came to the eye-opening experience of my first-year teaching in New Orleans, Louisiana after moving from Los Angeles, California and teaching for two years in rural Alabama. I realized that many things I had taken for granted in my own educational journey, were things that were almost non-existent to many of my students. My students have helped change my life in unimaginable ways. I was someone who, growing up, did not enjoy school. Now, my aim is to do everything in my power to make their learning experience enjoyable. Teaching has allowed me to channel my passion for helping and serving others into something productive. I hope to empower my students and provide them a platform to grow into their best selves. In my classroom sit future politicians, doctors, lawyers, professional athletes, educators, and scientists--help us become who we are meant to be.
