  • When Children Are Missing From History Books

    Funded Mar 6, 2020

I think you are all the greatest. It can be challenging to get students’ interest in the classroom, so I loom forward to using the book to build understanding of the Civil Rights movement during the 60s and early 70s.

Researchers say that reading fiction is an effective way to help create empathy in students—-so your gift will have long lasting ripples of goodness.”

  • Paper and Ink

    Funded Aug 8, 2019

How great to be able to approach the new school year knowing that I am not alone in my endeavor. The gifts you gave will make a difference in daily instruction and, in turn, make a difference in meeting the students’ needs.

It will be nice to think of your generosity each time we make a poster in class with our chart paper!”

  • Paper, Please.

    Funded Nov 29, 2017

We are well into the school year, so I want to let you know that your gift to our classroom is still making an impact. It is such a small, but wonderful, luxury to be able to reach into my cupboard and see several reams of inviting colors as I get copypaper. I hope that students fee this tiny spark of loveliness when they do their lessons on sky blue paper for music and character development or warm pink work packets for reading.

I asked for paper because the school can no longer afford to purchase more than one box per teacher each year; I asked for colored paper because it signals a particular subject for the students. The color system is making it easier to organize. And, when you have the mind and desk of a middle schooler, every bit of structure helps! It also helps my busy teacher brain, too.

Once again, you've come through with support and I am genuinely touched and thankful.”

  • Needed: Teachers Friend

    Funded Jan 25, 2018

This package of supplies will help our room at an important time of year...keeping away the winter doldrums and motivating students to do their best.

The paper and scissors are sorely needed, so thank you for giving us the tools we need to get our work done creatively. Your gifts are appreciated by all of us.”

  • A Little Bit of Lively Color

    Funded Mar 30, 2017

With your help, out classroom is a bit brighter. Our materials are color coded for better organization- which means a lot!- and our notebooks have pages that are highlighted. The color makes the notebooks, and the lessons, stand out as important and easier to find.

It is important to find creative ways to keep a child's attention in this technological age, so I thank you for helping me to do so. It's also important to receive paper of any kind, due to district budget shortfalls. So, I am grateful to keep the lessons flowing with the necessary supplies.

I hope that our children's work will lead them to the kind of successes that will allow them to become accomplished and generous adults, like you.”

  • Read A Chapter, Write A Letter; Life Will Get Better

    Funded Aug 26, 2017

It's super exciting to know that kindness, generosity, and respect for education are still strong within the hearts of so many people. While the world is acting crazy, we will continue to help children make their way and make it positive. Much love to you, from my students and me.”

  • Not All Readers Write, but All Writers Read

    Funded Aug 22, 2017

The books for this project were chosen for a "hard to reach" class. The students are lovable and talented, but they have some rough edges--and for good reasons. Their stories could be those of the students in Nikki Grimes' book. It means a lot to me (& them) that we can start our year with a book that will speak to their needs and that should motivate them to use writing as a tool for self-preservation, expression, and dreams.”

  • Making Learning a Breeze!

    Funded Aug 2, 2016

As I write this message to you, it is indeed very cold outside...which points to the fact that our WWisconsin climate has a wide range from high to low temperatures. Believe it or not- sometimes, it is so cold outside that we have to crank the boiler up real high. So high that we need to turn on a fafan to cool it down a bit. Our building is large and old, so the temperature can fluctuate greatly. Before we know it, however, seasons will change and the fans will once again be in constant use to cool down our third floor room in an old brick building.

I cannot overemphasize the benefits for keeping middle-schooners comfortable. They can get stressed quite easily and these powerful fans are just one more way we can cool them down as they deal with the dramas of academic demands, teen-age growing pains, and stuffy classrooms. Your gift makes a noticeable difference.”

  • A Healthy, Happy Class

    Funded Jul 29, 2016

Your gift is a noticeable bright spot each day for us. Our classroom smells so good that visitors even comment on it. We use our essential oils and our diffuser to create a pleasant environment and it works! Some days, I let the students vote on what kind of mood we need to create: Do we want a calm day, with lavender oil? Do we need to wake up with some lemongrass or with peppermint? During the cold winter days, we like to use the cinnamon and orange oils to help create warmth.

The best use of the essential oils is when I can apply some lavender oil on a tissue for a student who feels stressed out. That has made several students feel better and feel a little special. The students who experience stress have also appreciated the books about feelings, mindfulness, and dealing with stress. We have used them as the focus of whole class mindfulness lessons, but students have gone back to the books for personal reading when they have had problems with friends or family...or just being a teenager.

Your gifts have helped to create a safe haven in a stressful world- an environment that can teach healthy coping habits to our youth. Thank you.”

  • The Basics

    Funded Mar 29, 2017

I am thankful for the paper that you provided so we could make it to the end of the school year! It was getting a bit stressful when we were relying on my weekly trips to Target and whatever scrap paper I could salvage around school.

With your help, we were able to print out our students' writing for their portfolios. We also printed out a very complicated but fun project for the end of the year. The students had a "many-paged" project to create an animal shelter, in which they had to design the building, create a budget, "hire" staff, and create advertising. It made the last two weeks of school fun and challenging...

And I could not have provided this opportunity without your help.

I hope your kindness comes back to you.

    Sincerely,”

    Ms. Frankowiak
