  • Hear Ye, Hear Ye! Durable Headphones for Virtual Learning

    Funded Apr 1, 2021

Through your generosity by providing headphones, you will increase the engagement, performance, academic success, and student self-esteem.This is because headphones create a quiet and distraction free learning environment. Without headphones my students have a hard time concentrating on their math and reading computer lessons, Lexia and Dreambox. Headphones are a necessity that will increase their productivity, helping them to become successful readers and mathematicians.

Your donation will help envision a future in which learning is enjoyed and encouraged.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sullivan-Hein

  • Using Technology to Close the Achievement Gap

    Funded May 1, 2015

Words cannot express my gratitude for supporting my students by your funding the purchase of an iPad mini. Through your generous donation, you have increased academic success for students with unique needs and who are impacted by poverty. Your donation will build a future in which learning is enjoyed and encouraged.

The students are fully embracing the transition to the digital reading world. The interactive apps are engaging, improve critical thinking, writing skills and assess student progress within the frameworks of the Common Core State Standards.

This iPad is transforming the way I teach and how my students learn. It is a powerful creative tool. With a universe of apps and content at their fingertips, it makes for endless learning possibilities.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sullivan-Hein

  • Closing the Achievement Gap: Focus on Handwritng

    Funded Jul 23, 2012

I cannot begin to express my gratitude for your generous donation of providing slates, "wiggle-pens", letter formation kits, etc. to my classroom. It has made a tremendous impact on my K students. Approximately 35% of my students were struggling with handwriting in September and currently it is less than 5%. Daily access to these developmentally appropriate tools have increased my students' ability to; master letter and number formation, write simple sentences, and outperform their peers on the quality of the text they write on scored writing samples.

Our school is facing massive financial "cut-backs" so without your help, my K students would go without these vital resources. Even in an age of technology, handwriting remains a primary mode of communication. Your donation has made learning fun, writing is enjoyed, and the achievement gap is closing”

  • Yoga Balls: Alternative Seating That Makes Sense!

    Funded Sep 29, 2011

It is with great excitement and gratitude that I write this thank you for your generous donation. Your gift made a tremendous impact for one child with a rare skin disorder. Originally, the stability balls (yoga balls) were to help my students diagnosed with attention deficit or spectrum disorders. Research supported the use of yoga balls to increase "time on task" in the classroom.

Then, a student with E.B. enrolled. His skin is so fragile that sitting in a chair could cause his skin to blister. Since 1 in 50,000 children have E.B., there are not a lot of resources available to meet his needs. The yoga ball allows him to sit in a protective cushion. He loves it! We have been able to prevent any blistering from sitting on a hard surface.

With dwindling district resources and funding, it is becoming increasingly challenging to meet the needs of our students. Without donors like you, the special needs of children are being met. Know that you made a difference in the life of a child.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sullivan-Hein

My school is located in the second largest school district in Washington State. It serves a highly diverse population. Many of our students; live in poverty, are homeless, refugees, or speak one or more of the nine languages you can hear spoken in the hallways. The school also has three developmental preschools and two behavioral intervention rooms. Currently, 440 students are enrolled. This school is considered "high need" with most students receiving free/reduced lunch.
