Promote Social Emotional Learning
Funded Jan 15, 2020I am excited to take the next steps in teaching social emotional learning. The students are going to love using games to learn and implement new skills. Making learning fun motivates students and helps them pay attention and stay focused. Plus the students are motivated to learn these social skills because we've already been discussing how beneficial they will be in friendships and family relationships.”

Drink More Water with Reusable Bottles
Funded Aug 17, 2019Thank you for your support! We try to offer as many opportunities to our students as we can, and your support makes it possible for us to continue to do this. The supplies that you are providing for my students will help with basic needs as well as reinforce a healthy lifestyle. This will encourage them to drink more water throughout the day and you'd be surprised how excited students get over a water bottle of their very own.”

Funded Mar 21, 2019Thank you for your continued interest in my classroom. The students are hard working and deserving. I'm so proud of them this year. These little bits of comfort in the classroom lend to more positive attitudes, better collaboration and cooperation, and overall more productive students. They feel valued and then they work harder.”

Comfortable Learning
Funded Sep 25, 2018Thank you for your donations, they've made a huge impact on our class. You'd be amazed at the sense of community a comfortable chair can create. An uncomfortable student is a distracted student; so I try to create a comfortable learning environment. That may be as small as providing healthy snacks and keeping class plants to bigger things like actual comfortable chairs and cushions. Thank you so much for providing what I couldn't afford. Your donations allowed us to get 6 comfortable chairs and 10 read aloud books. The bean bags were not available, so we supplemented our order with books on character building. Each book goes with a week of lessons/activities about character traits like generosity, compassion, selflessness, empathy, friendship, tolerance, teamwork, responsibility, respect, honesty, integrity, and perseverance. These are all character traits we work on daily in the classroom. Students were able to earn the chairs by improving or excelling in any of these traits throughout the week.
I didn't quite know how to say thank you for your generous donations, so I figured I would just listen and write down quotes from the students. Please know that your donations made a big difference for these amazing students.
They were so excited when the chairs first arrived that they didn't even allow me to put them together after school. They opened the boxes immediately and started reading the directions. I love that five girls took the initiative to put them together correctly.
Chairs
"What can I do to earn a comfy chair?"
"I knew I tried my best last week."
"Manilla deserved the chair this week. She's really been trying hard."
"Stephanie always (twice) earns a chair. I need to be like her and help others more often."
"These chairs are awesome. You can wiggle around and still work with your group."
"We love these chairs because they are really comfy!"
Books
"Malala is just like us. She knows that education is the way out."
"I didn't know Audrey Hepburn was poor too. That's how she could understand the poor people and help so many."
We were only able to read two of the books so far, but they are looking forward to future lessons.
Thank you!”

Mrs. Vierra
