Access to this technology will greatly enhance the engagement level of my students. These digital natives will enthusiastically participate in technology-based literacy rotations designed to increase reading accuracy, fluency, and comprehension. "One in six children who are not reading proficiently in third grade fail to graduate from high school on time, four times the rate of children with proficient third-grade reading skills." (The Annie E. Casey Foundation 2012). First and second grade lay the groundwork for proficient third-grade readers. Focusing the enhanced teaching and learning tools on reading will have the greatest impact on the students' academic success. My students will be able to independently use literacy apps on the Kindle that are targeted to their specific needs while I work with other small groups of students to further meet learning objectives.
