This project will help my students learn more about organization, accountability and responsibility. With this organizer, they will be able to take ownership of their important papers, assignments, and projects by collecting, distributing, and handling their own papers. The students will organize and implement a system of the distribution of their important papers and make sure that the information is sent home and shared with parents. The mail sorter will be instrumental in this task because each student will have a mailbox for their papers and important work. They will be accountable for making sure that their personal box is emptied and the papers are shared with their parents weekly. In this way, their parents are also able to hold them accountable for assignments completed in class. From a social studies/civics aspect, this helps them understand the importance of the U.S. postal system as well as organization and leadership. This project will also allow the class to spend less time with mundane tasks such as passing out papers and spend more time on fun things like reading and writing. We will be able to use the extra time to allow for independent reading and writing, to delve into the craft of authors, and experiment with our own work. The time saved gives us the opportunity to relish words and to discover their hidden power.
