Some kids with ADHD focus best when fidgeting, but misinformed teachers may assume that movement distracts from their work. Research has shown that fidgeting and moving can help students with ADHD learn and be more successful in school. These fidgets provide an outlet for students with ADHD who have trouble focusing and are required to sit for extended periods of time. These fidgets are not disruptive to the educational environment and can be used during instructional time as well as during school assemblies. My students need a standing desk, desk cycle, and a variety of fidgets that help them achieve academic success. These tools will allow my students to experience a greater amount of success which will improve their self confidence. By having to redirect my students less often they will benefit from the reduction in the loss of instructional time. Fidgeting has been shown to help children with ADHD focus. Fidgets will help my students because they are silent, unobtrusive, and there are a wide variety of fidgets to fit each student's needs. I have included a marble fidget that is in a mesh bag. Students are able to manipulate the marble without the possibility of dropping the marble onto the ground. These are great for student use while sitting through long school assemblies. Fidget pencils toppers are another great tool. Students are able to screw and unscrew the top of the pencil to keep their hands busy while listening to instruction. The multi-textured ruler provides students with a sensory experience and is also safe to chew on if that is a need that has been identified. Finally, the bouncy bands allow for students to get their "wiggles" out while working at their desks. This gives students a physical outlet without compromising instructional time.
