In a normal school year, I am able to order classroom materials through my school and county to support my students' learning and don't have to fund these out of my own pocket. I anticipate that our funding for materials will either stay the same as previous years, or be limited due to Covid-19 budget restraints.
I am requesting whiteboards, dry-erase markers, and plastic cases for storage and organization. My material requests at school are usually approved for one class set of materials (30 of each item) because students can leave the materials for the next class to use.
Due to the current situation with Covid-19, my students whose families choose to learn in-person next school year will need a safe way to access materials and resources in the classroom. My goal is for each student to have their own set of materials that will stay in the classroom and only they will use. The materials won't be shared from class to class or among students within a single class, so we won't have to worry about sharing and spreading any germs.
Each individual set of materials will include whiteboards
- double-sided, math-specific whiteboards with a coordinate plane, dry erase markers and erasers, pencils, erasers, handheld sharpeners, individual notebooks, and plastic storage cases for organization. The majority of my students' families are unable to purchase these materials on their own (or are unable to continue purchasing more materials when they have run out after the first month of school).
I fully intend to be a paper-free classroom next year - bye bye paper copies - and primarily use digital sources and activities in-person. However, my students still appreciate writing and documenting their work on paper or whiteboard. While we must be socially distant in the classroom, students will use whiteboards to communicate and collaborate safely from 6 feet apart!
