  • Empowering Immigrant ELLs With Engaging Resources

    Funded Sep 28, 2024

The new resources have been a game-changer in my classroom! My students are using the ESL books to strengthen their decoding skills and expand their vocabulary, making strides in both reading and speaking. The clipboards have allowed for flexible seating, giving students the freedom to work comfortably around the room during group activities or independent tasks. For instance, during a recent vocabulary-building activity, students worked in pairs using the new books and clipboards to identify and write definitions for new words. The sensory materials and snacks have also become essential rewards, motivating students to stay focused and engaged, especially those who need a little extra encouragement to stay on task.

When the materials first arrived, the students were thrilled! Their excitement was palpable as they eagerly unpacked the boxes and explored the items. Many students immediately started flipping through the books, pointing out pictures and words they recognized. The clipboards were an instant hit, and they loved the idea of not being tied to their desks. Looking ahead, we are working on a storytelling project where students will write and illustrate short narratives based on their own experiences. The ESL books will serve as inspiration and support for their writing, while the sensory rewards will help keep them motivated as they draft and revise their work. These resources have truly brought new energy to our classroom, and we are so grateful for the support!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Roman

  • ELL Toolbox

    Funded Jul 18, 2024

I want to express my sincere gratitude for your generous support in providing resources like ELL Teacher's Toolbox, which has made a tremendous impact on my ESL teaching practice. This book has offered a wealth of strategies that are both practical and transformative for English learners, and it has been instrumental in helping me meet the diverse needs of my students. The approaches outlined in the book are designed with inclusivity and engagement in mind, allowing me to foster a more dynamic and supportive learning environment.

One method that has been especially effective is the picture induction technique, which I recently implemented with remarkable results. By using carefully selected images to stimulate discussion and language use, I was able to engage my students in ways that traditional methods couldn't achieve. This strategy provided them with a visual foundation, enabling them to build vocabulary, practice sentence structures, and communicate more confidently. Thank you again for making this possible!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Roman

  • Enhancing Language Skills with Engaging Resources

    Funded Jun 13, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous donation to my project, Enhancing Language Skills with Engaging Resources. The Lakeshore Language Development Cards have made a big impact on my students' learning. They've provided interactive and engaging ways for my English language learners to practice writing, grammar, and sentence structure in ways that feel fun and accessible. The cards have sparked their curiosity and helped create more hands-on opportunities for them to explore and refine their language skills.

Because of your support, my students are growing in confidence and becoming more proficient in their writing abilities. Many of them, especially those with interrupted schooling, now approach writing tasks with enthusiasm, taking on new challenges with the tools you helped provide. Your generosity has truly enriched their learning experience, and for that, we are all deeply grateful.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Roman

  • Math Magic: Empowering Young Mathematicians

    Funded Nov 27, 2023

    Dear Donors,

I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generous donation to my math project of math centers for small group intervention and instruction. Your contribution has made a significant impact on the lives of my students.

The Lakeshore Learning Centers have been a game-changer in my classroom. They provide hands-on, interactive activities that make learning math fun and engaging. My students are more motivated to learn and are making significant progress.

I have seen firsthand the positive impact that these centers have had on my students. They are more confident in their math abilities and are more likely to take risks and try new things. They are also more engaged in their learning and are more likely to retain what they have learned.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Roman

English-language learners are a growing population in New York City public schools as well as dual language programs. As a teacher I am always looking for effective ways to support these learners and help them achieve. Through my research I've discovered that iPad's are the ideal device for personalizing learning and strengthening language skills to ensure student success. Many of my students have limited access to a quality use of technology. We currently do not have any iPads in our classroom and only two desktops. iPads can be used in every subject area as a whole group, small group, or independently, They are easily accessible to ALL learners and highly interactive, engaging, and exciting. There are a variety of apps that accommodates every student’s academic needs. Students will be working, or as they think- playing, on apps that will strengthen comprehension, letter name and sound identification, fluency, and math skills such as counting, adding, subtracting, and solving word problems. With the right tools, monitoring and documenting reading fluency growth can be engaging and meaningful for my students. Recording reading progress and capturing data helps them self-assess and develop decoding and reading comprehension skills. The students think they are just playing a game, when in reality they are practicing important skills. A set of iPads would provide endless opportunities to learn, grow, and explore daily in the classroom.
