My students need more exposure to real world events in an informational text. They struggle with how to use the features of informational texts to gain information but also reading it because it "isn't as interesting" as fiction. My goal is that the Scholastic News is written with kids and real world events in mind so my students will hopefully change their minds about informational text. Students will be exposed first hand to what newspapers look like through Scholastic News but on their level and interest. The papers are appealing and attractive to kids. My students love to read and I feel that the Scholastic News will be a great addition to our library.
