I created this project so that I can provide my students with the best learning environment possible. As education advances, my classroom needs to as well. I chose these items because I believe they will benefit me with small group instruction and provide students with alternate seating options that cater to their interests. Teaching is the most effective when I can make connections and build relationships with my students. One way I do this is to study their interests. After discussing with my current students, I decided that next year I would do an "Under the Sea" theme for my room. This provides students with a learning environment that creates an excitement for school. In order to do this, I chose to add a set of turquoise stools, pink camping chairs, a mermaid theme area rug for whole group instruction, and a slip cover for a love seat, to the project. All of the colors will help me transform the classroom and create a true under the sea experience, and will be a perfect addition to my flexible seating classroom. I chose the bar stools to give my students alternate seating options. I also added a mermaid themed area rug to the project. This will be used for "carpet time". Carpet time is so important when implementing flexible seating in my classroom. The area rug will serve as our meeting place where my whole group instruction will take place. This will allow my students to be in an intimate, comfortable setting where we will have plenty of room to listen and discuss. Improving small group reading instruction, giving my students alternate seating options, and allowing me to reach my students through their interests, are all reasons that this project is important to me.
