  • A Back to Basic Notebook

    Funded Sep 4, 2020

Thank you so very much for supporting my project to provide notebooks to my well deserving students. The negative impact of Covid-19 cannot be understated in the community in which my students live.

Our school did work on providing some basic supplies, but when is that ever enough? Working with remote learners has provided many challenges. However, one definite highlight was when I started hearing from my remote students that they received the packages I sent which included the notebooks you provided.

It gives them a semblance of school to have the familiar black and white notebook in front of them when we work on lessons through the computer. Thanks for making their lives less stressful.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. C.

  • My Kingdom for Some Ink

    Funded May 5, 2020

Thank you so very much for the gift of ink for our classroom printer. To know that we will have a supply of ink, which the school doesn't always provide, creates less stress, encourages more creativity, and fosters productive work and outcomes.

Knowing that we will be able to create materials for science, social studies, math, reading, and writing when needed is such a blessing. To ask the students to take a quiz from questions written on the board wastes so much of the precious time we have together. The gift is a lifesaver. Thank you very much.”

  • Wiggling and Working

    Funded Nov 19, 2019

Thank you very much for the chair 'sox'. What a great addition to a more productive classroom.

Many students move around during the day. They may not sit with their feet flat on the floor, and that is a better way for them to individually learn. There may be some students who stay more focused on their work if they are able to stand, sit, turn, or have more freedom of movement while learning. By having the chair sox, the constant moving is not a distraction to them or to the other students in class.

You may have noticed that standing desks are now becoming popular for adults in the workplace. The chair sox give my students the option to work in the way that works best for them. I am very grateful for your support.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. C.

  • Ink Is All We Need

    Funded Sep 28, 2019

Thank you so much for the gift of an ink cartridge. I cannot really express how grateful I am for all your support. It is not realistically possible to teach a class in this day and age without access to a printer.

The new science program has quite a bit of material that can be projected (thanks to some of you I use the donated document camera for that) for the whole class to see and work from, but it also requires the students to complete data charts and other types of lessons that are not possible without printing material.

Not only does it assist in the students' learning, it is also a stress reducer to have received this gift from you. Thanks so much.”

  • Paper, Paper

    Funded Aug 13, 2019

Thank you so very much for the gift of paper. Not only am I able to print their tests (oh joy!), the whole class gets to use the paper for a variety of reasons which all help them learn more. One way the students are going to use it for a trifold brochure on China which encompasses the social studies curriculum, reading, and writing. By making a brochure the students are not only learning about another country, they are learning to summarize into succinct paragraphs with detailed sentences. This is a skill that needs lots of practice at their age. That is only one use for having a good supply of paper. Being able to have paper whenever we need it is quite a blessing for our class.”

  • Everything in Its Place

    Funded Jul 30, 2019

Thank you so very much for the pencil cups. What a great addition they have been to our class. They are such a great organizational tool, and they allow the students to be more productive and learn more.

The students are keeping regular pencils, colored pencils, erasers, pencil sharpeners, and reward tickets to our prize box all in the cup. The cups are not that big, yet the students have everything literally at their fingertips. Having everything so easily available has made it easier for them to learn. Thanks again.”

  • Looking Closer With a Document Camera

    Funded May 24, 2019

Thank you so very much for the document camera. It enhances the students' education in so many ways. We can project maps of other countries as we we work our way through the curriculum of communities around the world.

We can project math papers, including papers the students have completed to facilitate peer review. This also applies to their writing, reading responses, and science work. The students are very enthusiastic about brining their work up to project. Instead of them doing work at their seat and then having to copy it on the board as a sample, it is projected immediately onto the screen. So far they enjoy being the 'correctors' of others work. Thank you so much.”

  • The Bare Necessities

    Funded May 13, 2019

Thank you so much for giving us the gift of some basic supplies such as markers. It made so many activities more engaging and worthwhile. With a class full of English Language Learners, we have to teach math and reading, but we also have to teach them about the culture of their new country and home. For example, by having markers and other such supplies the children enthusiastically created Mother's and Father's Day cards to present to their parents. For many this a new American cultural experience in which they were proud to participate.”

  • What in the World Is Going On?

    Funded May 13, 2019

Thank you so very much for the gift of Time for Kids for my students. TFK is going to open a whole new world to them beyond their neighborhood.

TFK covers a wide range of topics in their articles. Some of the articles may be science related or might be about how children in another part of the world spend their days. There are many on money issues that are well written for young students. Topics cover everything from the environment to school lunches. It is a great resource for the students to improve their literacy as well as improve their knowledge of the world.”

  • Baskets for Books

    Funded May 13, 2019

Thank you so much for the wonderful gift of new book baskets. They have enabled us to be more organized which helps the students find books they want to read more easily. This in turn encourages them to constantly read, trade books, and read some more.

We are now able to organize our books by general reading levels as well as by areas of interest. We have a basket for who/what books. There is a series of books that are short biographies such as "Who Was Albert Einstein", "Who Was Helen Keller", and other books about historical as well as current people of interest. The students love them. They now live in a basket that is easy to find, and the students are devouring them.

    Thank you very much.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. C.

Adults sometimes forget that things that are simple for them now were not so simple for them when they were young. My fourth graders, in a low-income, big city school, are struggling to make sense of many things we, as adults, take for granted.
