Is there anything better than stumbling on the first book of a series, falling in love with the writing, the characters, or the story world, and then realizing that there will be many more stories set in that world? I want my students to immerse themselves in high-interest book series that will help them grow their love for reading.
Reading shouldn't be a hobby - it should be a lifestyle. My students participate in Reader's Workshop, where they are expected to read for an hour or more a day. Many of my students have limited access to books, so it my responsibility as their teacher to provide them with a fully-stocked library. Currently, our classroom library includes a few dozen books but lacks series that many children love. Many of my students like to read, but they do not yet love to read. Adding these book collections to our classroom library will not only allow students to more successful during Reader's Workshop, but it will shape them into life-long readers.
