Creating 3D Models and Fun Fridays

Funded Sep 8, 2022

Thank you for the fabulous donations. The students are still enjoying our projects with the 3D pen, 3D filament, and microphone.

The students used the 3D pens to create physical models of three-dimensional shapes.

It allowed them to reinforce the concepts of sides, edges, and vertices. We were able to use the remaining filament to design (in Sketchup) and print physical 3D floor plans (using 3D printers we have on the school site). During this project, they learned about area, perimeter, volume, and scaling along with 3D modeling. A few kids that finished early were able to use the microphone for entertainment.

What is still exciting for the students are the endless possibilities of things they can create using the 3D pen and filament (with the printer). A student came even came up with the idea of using 3D prints and class prizes.

Most of the students have never modeled or used a 3D pen or a 3D printer but many of my students are now researching getting a 3D printer/pen themselves. As I mentioned, they are excited about being able to design and create physical models of their own.”

With gratitude,

Mr. N.
