Learn to Sew!
Funded Aug 9, 2024My students have been using the sewing machines and fabric to learn problem solving skills. Sewing is a great way for them to learn this. Sewing machines are temperamental and the problems are immediate. For example learning to follow the correct steps before and after stitching helps avoid machine and project lock ups.
My students have so far worked on a simple project of making a zippered pouch. This taught them about different materials, using different presser feet and how to change them, and gave them the sense of accomplishment with a finished project.
The group is eager to begin their next project and tackle a bigger project. We will learn how to use a pattern and make an apron.”

Funded Sep 11, 2023Thank you for funding my project. The game play device has helped make our post-reading games more entertaining and fair. In the past, I could not determine which student had answered a question first. With the Eggspert device, the answer is recorded without question. Because of this device, my students are more competitive and know that their answers matter.
Another great feature of the Eggspert device is that I have a ready made tool for randomly selecting student groups for providing answers during class time. Different from game play, the device lets me randomly select them, instead of them telling me who answered first. Random selection of groups in a classroom is more important than people realize. It is easy for one student to feel over or under selected, so randomness is important.”

Funded Aug 29, 2023Thank you for the donations to my classroom. They have given my students increased focus and opportunity to learn. Our students have shown increased dysregulation in the classroom. Their ability to focus and pay attention has been a challenge. While many things contribute, the solutions also have required many facets.
Providing students with some increased comfort in their seating has definitely made a difference. Often, in my classroom, we listen to stories in Spanish. This requires student focus, but when that focus can include a level of comfort such as cushions, student focus improves. The cushions and stools have also provided opportunities for students to play card games with a "table" while they sit on the floor. The flexibility of seating choices has been fantastic.”
