Building Tomorrow's Future
Funded Apr 16, 2018The students of P.S. 115 are grateful for your generosity. The students were very excited to see the new materials that can be used for building, exploring and learning. The thank you letters that you will be receiving were written by a group of 3rd grade students. The students were given the task of building the best functioning ramp. Prior to the challenge being presented, the students learned about forces and motion, graving , reactions, momentum, and how simple machines work. The children had a lot of fun putting the things they learned into action.
The pictures uploaded were taken from a District 18 wide event, held at South Shore H.S., where children were challenged to make the best propeller can. Prior to their construction, the students learned about wind power, energy, forces and aerodynamics.
Thank you again for your generous donation. Your donation and continued support will help ensure that the children of P.S. 115 continue to build, explore, challenge and learn, moving them forward into their future endeavors.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Lebowitz

Funded Apr 1, 2017As a fellow Canarise graduate (P.S. 276 & Bildersee), I would like to thank you for the contribution you made to the students of P.S. 115. Being a past student, I know that your contribution came from the heart and held a personal connection to the neighborhood, school and students within. Since the initial request for funds, the P.S. 115 S.T.E.M. Zoo has grown. We have added another Bearded Dragon, a Tortoise, a Leopard Gecko and California King Snake.
P.S. Ms. Pensabene remembers you and sends her love.
The students of P.S. 115's love of animals and living things continue to grow. The animals within the P.S. 115 S.T.E.M. Zoo continue to support the students' academic growth. The students are enthusiastic about learning when they come to the S.T.E.M. Lab. They learn about animal care, reproduction, characteristics of living things, habitats, food chains, survival, camouflage, life cycles and many other topic throughout the school year. How many children can say that have learned so much while having the opportunity to touch, handle and care for Snakes, Bearded Dragons, Turtles, Tortoise, Crickets, Fish, and Frogs?
Your contribution went towards and continues to support the sustainability of the P.S. 115 S.T.E.M. Zoo. Your contribution not only benefits the students that I service within the weekly schedule but all students with the P.S. 115 school community. Teachers have the opportunity to take class trips to the P.S. 115 S.T.E.M. Zoo. During their visit, teacher choose from 3 options. Teachers can allow their students to independently explore the S.T.E.M. Lab, have a teacher directed / facilitated lesson with an animal focus or have the option of me directing / facilitating the lesson with a focus on one of the animals.
School is not only about academic growth, it's about new experiences and being exposed to different things. In the P.S. 115 S.T.E.M. Lab Zoo, students are certainly gaining new experiences and direction as they continue to grow as life long learners. I would furthermore, if you are ever back in the neighborhood, invite you to visit the S.T.E.M. Lab Zoo.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Lebowitz
S.T.R.E.A.M. - Horticulture
Funded Oct 27, 2016It is with my utmost pleasure that I write this letter to you, updating you on the impact of your generous donation which funded our greenhouse. Approximately 500 students+ come through the S.T.E.M. (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) Lab each week. Within the elementary science curriculum, students must learn about the impact that humans have on other humans' lives, wild animals have on humans' lives and how plants impact humans' lives. Instruction is vital for the students' understanding of these important topics. Instruction takes place through research, interactive SMARTPanel lessons, discussions and lecture. In addition, because of your generous donation, students will learn about the impact that plants have on human life through hand on learning, exploration and investigation.
Over the past month, students have been learning about plants, how to care for plants, how to grow plants and the impact that they have on human life. Students have been growing their own plants from seed, caring for them and watching them grow. Students have been preparing the greenhouse for the plants they have started from seed. Students will and are continuing to care for their plants in the greenhouse. Students are anxiously waiting for their plants to produce fruits and vegetables which they will be able to use and eat. We are planning a fund raiser, when our farmers in training, will sell the fruits and vegetables and use the money raised for a worthy cause.
Thank you, once again, from the staff and students of P.S. 115!”
With gratitude,
Mr. Lebowitz
