  • On Your Mark, Get Set, Go! START the New Year!

    Funded Aug 2, 2023

Thanks to your donation, my students have been learning the value of responsibility and organization. They have been using their mailbox daily to get their homework and important notices for their parents. Some are even using it to keep clutter out of their desk, by putting papers that go home in their mailbox slot.

They have been learning about time, weather and so much more using the Daily Chart in our morning meeting. Finally, they are learning self-control by utilizing the Classroom Management cards.

In less than two months, my first graders are taking care of their supplies more and becoming more considerate of their classmates.

What an amazing gift you have given them!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Giardina

  • Privacy Shields - Sometimes You Need Alone Time

    Funded Jan 23, 2023

Thank you so much for helping get our classroom our privacy shields. We have used them so many times already. My co-teacher and I know thought we would use them for tests and writing, but some students love to use them during independent reading, too.

The privacy shields is are great way to keep our students focused during work. They are finishing their work sooner, and we get to have more time to read aloud an extra book. Or, a quick art activity.

They are also doing a great job taking care of them. They have come a long way and we are grateful they appreciate all the gifts from Donors Choose!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Giardina

  • Taking a Brain Break

    Funded Nov 17, 2022

My first graders have been working so hard, and my co-teacher and I wanted to teach them after we work hard, we reward ourselves. Their reward has been the scratch cards that let them relax and be in awe of something so simple. They have been using them to write messages and make pictures.

There is so much more to our Brain Break activities, and we can't wait to introduce them. The colorful pencils and coloring pages will be up next.

It is important to show them positive ways to relax that don't involve electronics. Once again, so very much appreciated.”

  • Books Galore

    Funded Dec 8, 2022

My students got so excited when they saw the brand new books in the library. They are looking forward to book shopping all the time. Your generous donation is not only a donation of books, but one of enthusiasm and love of reading. Every day, a different group gets to book shop. Imagine their faces when they see a different book. Our lower lever readers are improving with each passing day, and the new books are keeping the momentum going. Not only are they reading for the love of it, but they are learning important critical thinking skills! What an accomplishment!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Giardina

  • What’s Happening? With Scholastic News, We’ll Find Out!

    Funded Jun 29, 2022

Thank you so much for helping fund my Scholastic News project. My students have been reading their newspapers every week. They are learning current events. Not only that, Scholastic News is great at supporting the science and social studies curriculum.

The students enjoy completing the activity on the last page. We have been so busy during reading, writing, math and beginning of the year activities, the students look forward to reading their newspapers.

As the year progresses, and their reading gets stronger, I am confident they will love their Scholastic News even more.”

  • A Paper Place- Classroom Mailbox!

    Funded Aug 21, 2022

I wish I can express how grateful I am for your donation. My students have been loving their mailboxes, and it has helped with organization. They have learned to get their own mail and keep their desks and workspaces neat.

The mailbox is also helpful in keeping the teacher's space neat. The students know important papers are found in the mailbox. Furthermore, when students are absent, they know any papers they missed are found in their own slot.

Please know that your donation helped with our classroom routines and it helps the students with consistency. As a benefit, they learned their student number faster, too.”

    Mrs. Giardina

  • Jars and Pencils Needed!

    Funded Oct 22, 2021

Thank you so much for helping my hard-working students in science. Quite often, while learning new concepts, I will need jars with lids for the investigations. Some jars are too small, while some are too big. However, the jars you helped supply are JUST RIGHT!! The jars are perfect when we are learning about physical science and living science. One way I will be using the jars is when we are making models of the water cycle, which is part of Earth science.

We also received new pencils, which we always run out of.

So a great big THANK YOU!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Giardina

  • Students are the winners with Teachers Pay Teachers!

    Funded May 23, 2021

Wow! Thank you so much. As the science teacher for 3rd-5th graders, there are often times a tricky concept I am teaching needs a little boost. That's when Teachers Pay Teachers comes in handy. Every time I walk into work and my schedule has changed, good old Teachers Pay Teachers comes to the rescue. What? "Teach a class who is NOT on my schedule"? Or, "teach a class who completed the lessons for the week, so come up with something impactful, and quick". Then there is, "you have a class with special needs today", so you have to adapt the plans to meet their needs. There are so many ways Teachers Pay Teachers is utilized.

On a final note, during this past year, Teachers Pay Teachers helped with digital resources, too. So what was already a new daily adventure in teaching, was less stressful because there were many lessons that worked with our Google Classroom platform.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Giardina

  • Remote Learning Made Easier for Students

    Funded May 7, 2021

Your generosity has been impactful in many ways.

Technology is always changing, and that includes education. By donating to my project for the MacBook Air, you have given me access to a larger world of lesson planning. The laptop gives me the ability to create electronic lesson plans. Whether my students are learning in-person or remotely, I have an extra tool to help reach them. If I have to travel from classroom to classroom, I can spend time working with them using digital tools, instead of using the valuable 5-10 minutes at the end of a period to clean up. Of course, having hands-on materials is irreplaceable, but there are times when the time is better spent reviewing, or teaching a longer lesson, instead of handling manipulatives. There are times when there are NO manipulatives. So, having virtual tools may be the only "hands-on" experience one of my classes gets.

    So, I thank you again!”

Hi there! I am a science teacher for five fifth grade classes! I love teaching all my English Language Learners, those with special needs, and my high level learners. I have been implementing STEM, but would like to change it to STEAM- science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics. I work at a Title 1 school, and always need to replenish some supplies every year. I am also beginning something new at my school- creating pop-up books. Please help me help my classes be prepared for the future!!!
