New Year, New Scholars!

Funded Sep 20, 2016

Thank you for your ongoing support in providing resources for my students! Working in a community where there is a lack of resources, it is beyond amazing to be able to have donors who can support my classroom. We received pencils, sentence strips, dry erase boards, dry erase markers, and tons of other supplies that are being utilized daily and have helped us gain a better understanding of math concepts and ELA. Pencils are a necessity to complete any of our assignments. We use our sentence strips to display student work with a title that expresses their hard work. For my English language learners, we use sentence strips to help us build on our vocabulary and enhance our sentence structure. The dry erase boards are great for math problems! Students get an opportunity to solve a problem and display them, it also gives them the opportunity to identify their mistakes and fix them. We use the timer daily for independent reading, math lessons, and independent work time. Some of my students like to use the timer to see how quickly they can solve problems.

When we first received our packages, our students were beyond excited. They began asking questions like "When will we use the white boards? What does the laminator do?" They instantly began opening everything and helped with storing the new materials. Our students are beyond grateful for the support and the amazing resources we now have and are able to use in our room. They continue to inspire us with their excitement and will ask daily if they can use the sentence strips or the white boards.

We will shortly be beginning a project on natural disasters. We are hoping to have all students publish their work using the resources we were given and the opportunity to laminate them so students have a piece of writing they can keep forever and be proud of.”

With gratitude,

Ms. D.
