Few memories of our school years compare to the dissections we once did in the science classes of our youth. No matter how many years (even decades) ago that may have been, the thrill and exhilaration of exploring what life looks like on the inside of another living thing are rarely forgotten. Getting the chance to examine animal specimens from the inside out firsthand sparks curiosity and awe unlike any other educational experience ever could. Despite the squeamish squeals and crinkled noses that go along with the sights and smells of dissection, many of us recall those experiences as valuable moments of inspiration from our youth where we became interested in learning more about the fields of science, health, and even medicine. Even for those who dread putting scalpel to the scapula, I know of no greater laboratory experience to develop students' curiosity, discipline, and respect for the beauty of living creatures than to allow them the opportunity to learn through dissection. Please support my students in discovering the magic of how their own human body is designed through examining the anatomically similar organ systems found in the pig specimens I am requesting.
