The students in my class are diverse learners, and thus have different needs in order to produce their best work. Some of my students like to work at a desk, some like to sit on a wiggle stool and work at a table, some like to lay on the floor. For others, they work best while standing. These desks can have two students working at them at a time, so there will be four spots for students to work standing up. Additionally, each desk has a swinging footrest. This footrest will allow my students who require some movement in order to stay focused, to jiggle and wiggle while still staying on task and not disrupting other classmates. When students have choice and voice in the classroom, they are more engaged in and enthusiastic about their learning. Something as simple as being able to self-advocate and choose where they work can shift a student's mindset for the entire year. These standing desks will help create a flexible learning environment in our classroom. In turn, this will help the students be self-advocates, be responsible, and experience success by producing their best work!
