Imagine yourself sitting in a hard metal chair attempting to learn, read, write, collaborate, and pay attention. Doesn't sound comfortable, does it? My goal this school year is to limit the number of desks in my classroom and provide several seating options such as wobble stools, stability balls, pillows, lap desks, etc. I want to provide a flexible seating arrangement in my second grade classroom. When students have the power to choose where they learn best, they will have more motivation to remain focused, do their best, and ultimately succeed. Children love choices. They appreciate the freedom to choose and they like the trust I have in them to choose correctly. I want to provide multiple seating options so my students can choose one that best fits their learning style; whether it be sitting on the floor with a pillow or bouncing on a stability ball. I'm excited to witness the positive experiences (social, behavior, academic, or emotional) that my students will encounter when having a flexible seating classroom!
