A room transformation changes your room into a certain setting or theme to engage students in their own learning with rigorous content. Classroom transformations are possible in EVERY classroom. I want to help my students become math and reading experts in their own learning atmosphere. Each Friday I would like to review a specific TEK from that week, but use a theme to help create a more engaging learning experience. This is a perfect way to review TEKS before giving a first grader an operations, algebraic thinking assessment or reading a passage activity. I feel this will be a great way to set the stage to engage our students this year. Classroom transformations can be used in math stations, reading stations, center rotations, as enrichment or remediation, small groups, as a test prep, etc. Students will complete 10 aligned challenges that can be distributed around the room. The Teacher will explain to the students that they are at a "coffee shop" and will complete all challenges around the room. Students will have a recording sheet for each challenge, the teacher will check the challenge to give points. Students who finish all 10 challenges will be rewarded with a cool pencil or some type of incentive. For students who are Virtual, I will include these students by inviting my them into a video call. I will set the scene and tell my class what themed day they will be completing. I piloted this project last year and felt that my students were engaged and on task with their learning. I would love to continue classroom transformations this year to see more growth in reading and math.
