All of our students experience some degree of sensory processing disorder. Due to our students' high sensory needs, our class is in need of alternative seating and sensory materials. We are in need of alternative seating such as ball chairs, wobble chairs, and bands for our regular chairs. These will allow students to have the motion they need while learning. Many students hear noises much louder than the rest of us. They have a difficult time singling out noises and can become overwhelmed. Noise blocking headphones can help calm these students when they become over stimulated. Sensory materials such as sand, water beads, squishy balls, and blubber will provide students with different textures to experience and have the necessary sensory input they crave. Our school is a Title I school, most of our students come from low-income households. Most families do not make enough to provide for these sensory needs at home. Having these materials at school would allow the students access to otherwise non-accessible materials and sensory input. Thank you for taking the time to look at our project! -Ms. Amy
