It's Hatching Time!
Funded Mar 29, 2024We are beyond grateful of our chick hatching project! We hatched 14 of our 22 eggs in one class and 13 out of 22 in the other. What a ride for our sweet kiddos. We have learned so much teachers included 😆 Our whole school was excited to come and visit our chicks. The kids all stepped up and wanted to feed and take full on responsibility for caring for them. We used this whole experience to take a deeper look into life cycles and development.
All of the resources donated were used to expand the students' vocabulary and understanding of cycles. It was also a great connection to their own worlds of farming that they are around and exposed to. Many of the students were so excited because they had chickens at home as well and shared all about themselves with our classes. We began our whole unit with the life cycle, diet, and other facts about chickens. During our day, the students were able to choose books on chickens. They even asked what else they could hatch when we were done. All of our chicks went to homes in our rural community with the new owners sharing a few pictures of the chickens' growth.
It was such a fantastic experience for our students and the way each child jumped in to report new observations for their journals. Teachers also noticed that the students were using new vocabulary they had learned when talking to other adults about the chicks.”

Lonely iPads Need Smart Kiddos to Brighten Their Day!
Funded Aug 3, 2018This project has made an amazing impact to our classroom. We have been able to integrate them into our math, reading, and science instruction. The students have been using Osmo. By using this, they have been able to build math fluency, reading fluency and phonemic awareness, and spatial awareness. They have learned to be responsible with their materials and take lots of care to make sure they are put away and charged. My students in special education have taken to the ease of interactivity. They have responded well to the feedback given by different programs. We have also built in coding programs that will increase their skills with computer science.
Students have really responded and been excited to use their current knowledge and apply it to each program on their IPADs. Their pride and motivation with work completion has shown vast improvement. They are eager to get on a program and complete the task no matter the content. They use a writing application to create their own book based on the phonics skill (short e final -ck). This allows for creativity and writing fluency. We use Osmo mainly for math to build number sense and addition and subtraction fluency. Students use the tangrams to spatial awareness and problem solving.
We could not be more grateful for the opportunity that this has presented to us. The students are overjoyed to have technology on a regular basis and have blossomed with self-confidence.”
