My classroom's theme is iLead, and all learning experiences are built around their abilities to lead their communities in the future through civic engagement, social justice work, and community service. Given the high needs of my students, lots of their learning time needs to be differentiated to allow students to learn and grow at their own pace, and work on these different types of projects. Technology is one of the best, most efficient tools to accomplish this because I can create learning experiences that students can engage with individually, and with greater focus and investment, while other students can get support from me elsewhere. This is not successful when students don't have access to technology like Chromebooks. I'm asking for 12 so that at a minimum, my students can share them as they work cooperatively on civic engagement projects and modules; social justice reading, writing, and planning; and inter-disciplinary science content, among other things. Moreover, students of the 21st century must be agile enough to conduct certain learning experiences online, accessing videos, modules, data, charts, etc through their Chromebooks in ways that will make them more successful in future grade, college and/or career. I often receive students who can't type nor access computer features fluently--it's my goal to minimize the disadvantage this puts them at, compared to their more affluent peers, when they sit to take an online state test. Also, I'm able to multiply my effect as a teacher by creating different lessons, explorations, and modules for them to access while away from me---every minute is maximized! For all of these reasons, I'd be super grateful to get your help with 12 Chromebooks for my 24 future leaders!
