We Need Materials For Family Workshops!
Funded Dec 30, 2016As an AIS teacher located in the Bronx, New York City. I teach eager kindergarten, first and third grade children, who are struggling readers and writers. Some of these students are English Language Learners, as well as special needs students. My students are devoted to learning but needed a different approach toward their education. They need small group instruction that uses many types of manipulatives.
Problem solved! You supplied the materials we needed, so that everyone could use them to see and understand the reading process. The giant magnetic words are quite handy and a hit with the children. You should see the smiles on their faces. It is so hard to drag them away from the magnetic letters and words to move on to a different, less-engaging activity.
They love the mobile library cart with book bins. All our materials are organized and easily accessible. They can go and chose their own books, since they know their reading levels. The magnetic letters definitely enable parents and their children to write interesting sentences without the burden of spelling. Plus, the fact that they are color coded makes it easy to supply sentences with a missing noun, verb or even adjectives!
Thank you again from the bottom of my heart for your generous donation.”

Funded Oct 26, 2016My students are using the magnetic letters and magnetic board to practice making and blending new words. They even sort and generate words that rhyme with those found in texts that we are reading. This is a great motivation for them as they practice using vowel sounds to read new words.
When they first saw the board they were wondering what it was. When I opened the magnetic letter box they got excited right away. I modeled how we were going to use the letters that day, and they were eager to get started. They made and read words with the vowel we were working on that day. They were so disappointed when reading was over and they had to move on to another activity. I just knew this project was a winner. I deeply appreciate it.
One of our activities included a guided reading of a decodable book. A follow-up activity was to find words from the text with the short vowel e. They were to make those words and then make additional words that rhymed. They were eager and very engaged in this activity as they tried to out-do their group mates by generating the most rhyming words. This is inherently a motivational project. I just got magnetic words funded and can't wait to see them generate simple and then complex sentences. We love it.”

Funded Sep 16, 2016Thank you! Thank you!! The Kindle Fire tablets were the greatest thing to hit my classroom. My students were actually so quiet while I put the wi-fi code in that you could actually hear a pin drop. It was very funny because a teacher walking by the room stopped to find out what was going on.
Already a few of my kids have previewed the story we are about to start reading in our new text books. Although, hopefully soon I will have a class set of kindles and everyone will be able to use a tablet.
You are the BEST!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Fuller
