I plan on using these books to provide my students with rich, quality reading. We will focus on standard ELA skills while reading interesting stories about characters' lives. These book provide real life experiences that my students can relate to. When kids read books they are interested in, they read more. The more they read, the better their understanding not only of books, but of the world. Their vocabulary and critical thinking skills increase helping them get into better colleges and out of the area in which they live or help to make it a better place to live. By giving these kids this opportunity, you are fostering a change in a cycle that might otherwise not be broken.
These kids live in hardship and with these books, they can learn to overcome their own obstacles and go beyond a place they never thought they would otherwise have a chance.
Thank you for giving them this opportunity.
